What do management committee members do?

  • A management committee member’s job is usually described as ‘governing the charity’, or more simply, governance.
  • Governance is a combination of general control, management and duty of care.
  • Management committee members cannot be paid for their trustee role. This means the charity can demonstrate that people are willing to support its objects without financial gain, and therefore will act in the best interests of the charity.

 

Who can be a management committee member?

  • You do not need qualifications to be a trustee
  • If you are good at organising things in your own life, you could be a good trustee
  • If you have good awareness of finances you could be a good trustee
  • If you are good at communicating and seeing the ‘big picture’, you could be a good trustee.
