Small Sparks Funding Success The Arc – Paid £250.00 is a new free resource group for special needs adults 19+ and their carers. The Arc will offer sensory activities, including arts/crafts/cooking and switch activities for the less abled bodied. The group will enable people to socialise, gain support and find out information too. The fund will be used for purchasing equipment for the group, cooking equipment arts/crafts tactile & messy sensory bits. Sugarloaf Riding for the Disabled. – Paid £250.00 Suagarloaf is a Thurrock based horse riding school for people with disabilities of all ages, charity run by volunteers. They want to buy a new saddle for Bess a horse used by sugarloaf riders. Her current saddle is well used and no longer provides appropriate comfort for horse or rider. Horse riding enables the rider can improve flexibility and muscle tone, including core strength. They develop listening skills and carry out instructions. Individual needs are met be the instructor who can differentiate task, questions to ensure success, raised confidence, self-esteem and growth pf participant ability. Research has proven that spending time caring and riding horses is therapeutic relaxing while also improving their social skills. ETCA = East Thurrock Community Association. The East Thurrock Community Association are using the Small Sparks grant of £250.00 to part fund a 20 sec advert which will be on a loop, which will be played on the Iseetv televisions screen that is situated in the Hassenbrook medical centre. This will help the group raise awareness about the work the group carries out and about the services and activities that the club provides, such as special needs group, OAP Bingo, Chess Club, Social Services. SOCF Street Dancers – Paid £250 SOCF street Dancers were awarded £250 to go towards performing in Disneyland Paris. The dance group had been let at the last minute by a local building company who had offered sponsorship to them to take 34, of their under privileged students to dance in Disneyland Paris, which would have been a life changing opportunity for them. Money had already been spent by the Teacher on their costumes, hall hire for rehearsals, coach travel to and from Disney. They are still looking for funds to help pay for the children’s accommodation.
